Motif Monday::Tiles and Doors

by heatherkp

This Monday and next I will share with you a few details I caught in photo’s that are great inspiration for pattern motifs or other artwork.  Everywhere I looked in Provence I found small details, key holes, letter boxes, decorative tiles, ironwork and even decorative door knobs that remain an inspiration for me.  Because there is so much history and the architecture is so much older than most of what we have in America there was inspiration on almost every building.

It was a pleasure to see such a broad range of period styles from medieval to art deco and more simple country provincial decorative details.  I love that these details are cherished and taken care of rather than replaced.  As we walked and toured each town I was always the last one straggling behind trying to capture these details and burn them into my memory.

Wednesday::The Wellness Journal

by heatherkp

via biffybeans.com

For the first Wednesday Wellness entry I am including the practice of Journaling.  I started this practice “religiously” a few years ago when I began reading The Artist Way

via ohhellofriendlyblog.com

“Morning pages” as Julia calls them, have been a useful tool for me each morning.  Basically I do a brain dump and get all the ideas, burdens, to-do’s, want-to-do’s out of my head and onto paper.  Julia encourages stream of conscious writing and I find that I’m not always in the right mindset to write this way but regardless it’s helpful to me.

I begin each day writing as many things as I can think of to be grateful for.  This usually fills up 1/2-1 page of my journal entry.  Some days it’s more difficult than others to find things to be grateful for but the act of acknowledging what I am grateful for helps lift my spirits as I begin the day.

Some people do their journal entries on their computers and I think this idea would be much more eco friendly but I’m not sure I would ever be able to express myself the same way I can with pen and paper.  I think part of what I love about journaling is finding beautiful journals to write in.

I also love writing by hand {although I hate my handwriting!} and love finding a fun pen.  In fact I usually write in a different color each day to make it more easy to identify each day’s entry and the colors sometimes reflect my mood.  I’ve included other ideas in my journal entries such as doing a small sketch each day or writing affirmations.

What do you think?  Do you journal and if so do you include drawings, affirmations, gratitude or any other regular routines in your practice?  Do you use pen and paper or do you journal on your computer?  I hope you enjoyed the journal images I’ve shared here and there are so many more out there.  Right here is a great journal roundup/review!

Soaring from the swamp

by heatherkp

I’m sure you are wondering what I am talking about with a title like that.  Well, last week was one of those weeks where I felt like I was trudging through the swamp.  Every step I took left me feeling heavier and more bogged down!  I am currently juggling a lot of different activities and along with that I am having to learn a lot of new things.  My brain was just on overload last week but somewhere along the line I broke free and now I feel like I’m soaring above it all!  Here are a few sneak peaks of what I’ve been working on

I’m building my new website and  here are a few elements of my design.  I’ve had some freelance carpet design work.  I’ve did a photo shoot with some great jewelry and great models (more to come soon I promise!).…and we went to Circ du Soleil~Ovo this past Saturday which was pure inspiration, maybe it was all those acrobatic moves that got me soaring!
